Embedded condition monitoring consists of monitoring in real time the operating conditions and the operating state of the mobile assets. A better understanding of the operating conditions makes it possible to identify the elements whose maintenance is to be expected.
The continuous condition monitoring of mobile assets offers a detailed knowledge of their time behavior in order to anticipate the wear and tear of their components and to initiate preventive maintenance actions at the most opportune time to optimize their use and reduce the costs of corrective maintenance.
Vibration, noise, temperature, acceleration, shock and humidity data are among the main indicators to anticipate possible deficiencies. The trends that emerge from the collection of these measures inform on how to prevent defects and breakdowns.
The design and implementation of embedded systems on mobile assets requires to assess the equipment while functioning. HIKOB SENTINEL wireless embedded condition monitoring systems, adapted to each project, with its safety or even electromagnetic compatibility constraints, ensure the real-time availability of all data required for continuous and accurate monitoring of critical mobile assets.
Relying on autonomous, high-performance, wireless sensors, distributed as close as possible to multiple critical points, the system ensures the real-time and continuous transmission of various singular measurements to the collection point which takes care of the synchronization, the correlation and the provision of these data.
These tailored systems feed the operational monitoring, the programming of preventive maintenance actions and the analysis of actual operating conditions. It is based on HIKOB’s network of sensors and wireless acquisition nodes. The signal processing is embedded in the acquisition nodes and / or sensors. Depending on the use case, additional processing can be carried out by the gateway, in particular for the integration of geolocation data in the sorting of events.
HIKOB acquisition nodes transmit by radio communication the pre-processed information to “the collection point” or “gateway”. It is possible to extend the range of the network by adding a wireless and ultra-low power mesh HIKOB LION router.
The gateway links the network of wireless sensors to an internet network. Radio communications are carried out in the 2.4 GHz frequency band according to the IEEE 802.15.4e standardized protocol up to the gateway which interfaces to an IP network.
All data is transmitted over a GPRS / 3G or Wifi mobile network, to the customer’s host center, or to the HIKOB cloud storage and viewing platform.
In a global automation logic, an interaction of the HIKOB system with a third-party equipment is easy to implement, for example to indicate threshold crossings.
Sensors and / or acquisition nodes are adapted and miniaturized to obtain the lowest possible level of intrusiveness. Relevant and accurate data are collected, as close as possible to the critical element, to be preprocessed in an integrated manner and uploaded in real time and continuously via a robust radio network. The FTDMA mechanism of the radio protocol implemented ensures a high level of fluidity and robustness of communication. At the same time, the autonomy of the sensors is adapted to the use of mobile assets for an optimal monitoring.
