Measuring horse movements on the field
Established in 1998, CWD currently produces about 6,500 saddles per year. As part of its product development, CWD is always at the forefront of technology and innovation. The saddle is a strategic interface between the horse and the rider. Accurate data on the behavior of the saddle is crucial for CWD in order to develop more efficient products.
The challenge for CWD was to develop its knowledge regarding the horse movements. The system requirements were a miniature and robust device that can be embedded between the saddle and the horse’s back and a low power and wireless device in order to capture information on the field in real equestrian practice conditions.
CWD turned to the wireless data acquisition system provided by HIKOB, especially for its synchronized inertial measurement units.
Thanks to HIKOB systems, we could expand our research fields and validate that many new research objectives were achievable. This is the first time that a research team and a company are focusing together on the subject of horse motion.
We were able to produce a processing method really adapted to our needs thanks to the HIKOB system, the break-out card, the data fusion software and a very efficient support of the HIKOB engineers.
Synchronized network of wireless inertial measurement units

- Each HIKOB FOX nodes includes a 9° of freedom inertial measurement unit:
- 3D accelerometer
- 3D gyrometer
- 3D magnetometer
- 1 synchronization gateway
- Deployment architecture: synchronized datalogging acquisition (saddle pad for pressure measurement…). Data acquisition is synchronized for all units in the network thanks to the radio synchronization gateway (ISM bandwith 2.4GHz)
